Jarita Frazier King ( Chef Rita) is a Mississippi-based chef and food historian rooted in Southern traditions. She was born and raised in Natchez, Mississippi. She is a two-time graduate of Alcorn State University, where she received a bachelor's and master's degree. Chef Rita is the Owner and lead “ Food Engineer” at Natchez Heritage School of Cooking . She is the creator of the Soul Food Fusion Festival (SFFF). The Food Music and Wine Festival features a block-long white linen community dining table. The SFFF is designed to encourage more diverse community engagement. Chef Rita is featured in the New York Museum of Food and Drink for the Legacy Quilt Exhibition, honoring African-American food, drink, or cultural producers who have laid the foundation for African-American cuisine. She was recently featured in HULU’s “Searching for Soul Food”.
